Welcome to Local 378's 2010 website!

As a Local Union, our goal is to build a foundation to establish a grassroots program that motivates and educates members to vote pro labor. To help reach our goal, we have hired Mahdis "Mac" Fathi as our Political Activist/Coordinator. She will be organizing precinct walks and phone banks, updating the voter registration for our membership, interacting with our membership on political issues and attending the monthly membership meetings to name a few. Mac is a current student of Diablo Valley College and has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California Riverside. If you would like to be in contact with Mac please email her at mfathi@ironworkers378.org or you can email the general email for the 2010 elections stopwhitman@ironworkers378.org

The following article outlines how although California is going through some extremely rough times right now, we are not a failing state. In our upcoming election in November there will be a lot of political rhetoric on how California needs to be more business friendly, and that regulations are strangling innovation. This article offers a realistic insight into California’s current and future global competitiveness. Please take note of Ebay listed in the second paragraph.

Why California is Still America’s Future

This weekend will be a GOP convention in San Diego, California. Meg Whitman is planning on attending, but for only a short while. Gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman not only refuses to hold multiple public debates with Democratic candidate Jerry Brown, but she also refuses to answer to her own party.  A repetitive theme Whitman touts is that she is paying for her own campaign, and does not owe anyone anything unlike her counterpart Brown. Apparently she does not “owe” her time or loyalty to her own party either. This lack of participation, begs the question of how she would treat her future constituents as Governor?
